GPM Applications Webinar - IMERG V6
Introductory Webinar: Overview and Applications of Integrated Multi-Satellite Retrievals for GPM (IMERG) Long-term Precipitation Data Products
On October 15, 2019, GPM will hold a webinar about the new Version 6 release of the IMERG multi-satellite precipitation-estimation algorithm. This training is for professionals interested in using a state-of-the-art precipitation data product for applications in the water resources, disasters, agriculture, energy, and health sectors. By the end of the training, participates will:
- Be familiar with the TRMM/GPM Missions, GPM data products, and GPM Applications
- Understand IMERG and the strengths/caveats of the long-term IMERG data record
- Find previous training webinars related to GPM precipitation
- Learn to access, analyze, and visualize IMERG data using NASA web-tools
Webinar Times: 10:00-12:00 EDT (1400-1500UTC) and 15:00-17:00 EDT (1900-2100UTC) on October 15, 2019
Registration Closes: October 14, 2019
Agenda: Agenda PDF
Background: When the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission launched in 2014, it continued the precipitation data record of its predecessor, the Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM). Together with their partner satellites in the Precipitation Measurement Mission constellation, GPM and TRMM have created a ~20-year data record of global precipitation, giving scientists and data users an unprecedented look at events ranging from extreme rainfall and daily patterns to disasters and long-term trends at regional to global scales. This long data record is now available in GPM’s multi-satellite product called the Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for GPM (IMERG) Version 06. This two-hour webinar will provide a conceptual overview of the TRMM/GPM missions and an introduction to IMERG. The training will also guide participants through multiple case studies on the use of IMERG for applications, as well as IMERG data access, analysis, and on-line visualization tools for applying IMERG’s long precipitation data record to a range of applications.
Audience: This training is appropriate for professionals interested in using a state-of-the-art precipitation data product for applications in the water resources, disasters, agriculture, energy, and health sectors. For users with knowledge of IMERG, this webinar will serve as a review of the product and highlight IMERG V06 upgrades.
Prerequisite: Beginner level background in remote sensing is expected. No prior experience with IMERG data is expected.
