What is a “hurricane season”?

The Atlantic "hurricane season" officially began on June 1 and runs through Nov. 30th. The Atlantic basin includes the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting that we will have a busy hurricane season this year.
