How to View the Model:

• To view the 3D model file, download and install the free LEGO© Digital Designer (LDD) program, which allows you to build with LEGO© bricks on your computer. It works for both PC and Mac, and is available at https://www.lego.com/en-us/ldd/download 
• Once you have installed the LDD program, download and open this file: LEGO Hurricane Irma from GPM Data 

 
How to Build the Model

Step 1: Download the Parts List

Note that in the videos/images and LDD file, a large blue baseplate is used underneath the hurricane for aesthetic purposes. However, baseplates in that color are very difficult to find, so a gray baseplate (and gray plates underneath the individual hurricane slices) are listed in the parts list. Also, the black bricks that appear in the listing are not visible from the outside of the model after construction, so any color bricks available can be substituted.

Step 2: Acquiring Parts

Visit the ‘LEGO© Pick a Brick’ website (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Pick-A-Brick-ByTheme). In the ‘Advanced Search’ box found on the left hand side of the page, enter each of the ‘Element ID’ numbers found on the ‘LEGO Hurricane Irma - Parts List’ (or copy and paste from the spreadsheet) and click the arrow. After each entry make sure to click the orange ‘Add to Bag’ button and adjust to the appropriate quantity. LEGO© part numbers change periodically, and all parts may not be available at all times. This can be a challenge when attempting to order specific bricks to construct the model. If you cannot find the piece by number, try searching by description. Sometimes these unavailable pieces can be obtained via the ‘Missing Parts’ link on the LEGO© website. 

Step 3: Building Guide

Download the building guide and follow the instructions to construct your model. Please note that is an auto-generated guide, and may not be as user-friendly as normal LEGO building guides. Before printing, also note that the guide is quite lengthy (400+ pages). A video version of the step-by-step guide is linked below if that is preferred.
