How to View the Model:

• To view the 3D model file, download and install the free LEGO© Digital Designer (LDD) program, which allows you to build with LEGO© bricks on your computer. It works for both PC and Mac, and is available at https://www.lego.com/en-us/ldd/download 
• Once you have installed the LDD program, download and open this file: GPM LEGO Digital Designer File

How to Build the Model

Step 1: Download the Parts List

Step 2: Acquiring Parts

Individual Parts:

Visit the ‘LEGO^© Pick a Brick’ website (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Pick-A-Brick-ByTheme). In the ‘Advanced Search’ box found on the left hand side of the page, enter each of the ‘Element ID’ numbers found on the ‘GPM LEGO^© Model - Parts List’ (or copy and paste from the spreadsheet) and click the arrow. After each entry make sure to click the orange ‘Add to Bag’ button and adjust to the appropriate quantity. LEGO^© part numbers change periodically, and all parts may not be available at all times. This can be a challenge when attempting to order specific bricks to construct the GPM model.  If you cannot find the piece by number, try searching by description. Also note that rows highlighted (in red) are bricks that were unavailable on the LEGO^© Pick a Brick website as of 5/23/2014. You may try varying the color of the piece to obtain a complete set. Sometimes these unavailable pieces can be obtained via the ‘Missing Parts’ link on the LEGO^© website. 

Complete kits:

Pre-sorted kits may be purchased from the youth engineering program Mountaineer Area Robotics, whose members originally designed the LEGO^© model of the GPM Core Observatory. For more information visit http://www.marsfirst.org/gpmmms/ 

Step 3: Building Guide

Download the building guide and follow the instructions to construct your model.

NOTE: Only one connector peg (Element ID 4211807) appears in the LEGO^© Digital Designer file, but two should be used in the final physical model to prevent the propulsion module from rotating (see building guide steps 1 & 9).
