"I am honored to be a part of the GPM Mater Teacher project for this year and to work with an outstanding group of educators who share a passion for engaging students in understanding Earth’s water resources.
I am a fifth grade Science teacher in Norwalk, Ohio. The best thing about teaching ten and eleven year old students is guiding their curiosity and energy into discovering the world around them. Our town is not very far from Lake Erie. I think it is imperative that my students learn about the place they live and to gain an appreciation for the precious fresh water resource we have in the Great Lakes. The quality of the water in our watershed directly affects Lake Erie, and the Great Lakes affect the climate in our region.
I have been a GLOBE teacher since 2006. My students participate in The GLOBE Program each year by using the atmosphere, hydrology, and soil protocols to gather data for student research projects about their “place”. They have collaborated with students from other schools and with scientists in their projects through a variety of technology applications. Contact with other schools gives students a sense of community. Quite often students can be heard referring to students from other places as their friends. This becomes an important foundation for student growth as stewards of water resources on earth.
Outside of my teaching adventures I enjoy spending time with my husband "
