2015 Master Teachers: Mike Jabot
"Hello from Fredonia, NY! I am extremely thrilled and honored to be involved with the GPM Master Teachers program this year.
I am a Professor of Science Education at the State University of New York at Fredonia and in my work I have the privilege of working with both a FANTASTIC group of preservice teachers as well as an AMAZING group of classroom teachers across the five county region of Western New York State.
I am just so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such great colleagues across the country on the things that excite me. This work at the state, national and international level has given me a deep appreciation for the role that science can play in the lives of people to help solve some of the greatest challenges that we face as a society. My current “passion” is trying to help teachers and students alike to learn about their “place”. In doing this, I am very focused on using geospatial tools and remote sensing to help them make sense of the kinds of science that are surrounding them and to start to ask and answer questions about the world that surrounds them. Being able to join the GPM team will only help move this conversation forward.
I am blessed to have a FANTSTIC wife and three WONDERFUL sons who help keep me grounded and offer incredible support for the things that excite me. "
