As a 6th and 7th grade science educator at Severna Park Middle School for the last 15 years, I have continually sought to take part in professional development that makes me more confident and content that expands what I am able to offer to students in a real-world setting. Students and adults become more excited when they actively participate collaboratively, and this embodies the NASA GPM Master Teacher program. Forming partnerships is such an important aspect to bringing science to life for my students, and for me. Seeing things up close and personal, collecting data, and being part of a community is so beyond reading about something in a textbook and trying to make it relevant and meaningful. Whenever a person is genuinely excited about what they do, that shows to others. How can I expect my students to love science if it isn’t obvious to them that learning never stops?
