2014 Master Teachers: Nancy A. Carey
Second Grade Teacher
Rosemont Elementary School
Montgomery County Public Schools
"I am currently a second grade teacher and a STEM lead teacher for fifth grade teachers. I returned to the classroom to reconnect with teaching children and I absolutely look forward to coming to work every day. I can now walk to work which is also a huge bonus.
Prior to teaching second grade I worked for ten years at the Maryland State Department of Education as the Coordinator of Professional Development and was responsible for the administration and monitoring of state and federal grant implementation to local school systems for Title II, Part A, Preparing, Training and Recruiting High-Quality Teachers and Principals, and the Title II, Part B, Math and Science Partnership Grants. I served as a Local School System Coordinator for a Federal Innovation Challenge Grant, an Instructional Specialist in the Office of Global Access, a middle school science teacher, and a kindergarten teacher.
I have numerous hobbies and interests. My family tops the list and includes my husband Ray; son Tim and his fiancé Jennifer; daughter Kristin, her husband Tim and two grand-daughters Evelyn and Maisie: my daughter Brianne, her husband Jedediah and grandson Dalton; and my dog Brewskey. I garden, can and preserve my food, am an avid bread maker, am a beekeeper, and sew. We camp as often as we can as a family and enjoy the great outdoors."
