GPM Master Teachers

GPM Earth SySTEM Ambassadors

Here is the GPM Ambassadors Cohort for the 2015 - 2016 School Year

NASA's Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission selected a small cadre of "GPM Earth SySTEM Ambassadors" to learn about NASA Earth Science missions, share “Best Practices” and ideas for integrating The GLOBE Program into their classes and centers, learning the science and engineering behind NASA Earth Science missions from the scientists and engineers themselves, and trying out various NASA-unique educational resources with their students.

Selected teachers earn a stipend for their participation, which will run from Sept. 1, 2015, through June 30, 2016. All training and participation will take place online. Our teachers will spend approximately 10 hours per month working on this collaborative project, and will share what they learn with other teachers and professionals, as well as lead at least two outreach activities during the school year.

Our home planet is a complex, dynamic system that we do not yet fully understand. The Earth system includes many components that interact in complex ways. We need to understand the Earth's atmosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere as a single connected system. Our planet is changing in many ways, and measuring these changes is vital to increasing our understanding of our planet. The purpose of NASA's Earth science program is to “develop a scientific understanding of Earth's system and its response to natural or human-induced changes, and to improve prediction of climate, weather, and natural hazards.”

In addition to learning about NASA’s Earth science missions, GPM Ambassadors will do the following:

  • Participate in monthly webinars
  • Pilot NASA educational resources and provide feedback
  • Collaborate with fellow GPM Ambassadors on ways to integrate NASA Earth science content and resources in your ongoing instruction
  • Disseminate information about NASA and GPM’s educational resources to their peers
  • Host a NASA Earth science event at some point during the year (examples include a family science night, program for scouts or an afterschool club, library program, etc.)
  • Share “Best Practices” for integrating The GLOBE Program into their ongoing curriculum
