The joint NASA / JAXA Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission has been tracking rain and snow around the globe for over 10 years, providing valuable insights into Earth's weather and climate. Through the data it collects, GPM has helped scientists study and understand our planet's water cycle and extreme weather events like hurricanes, monsoons, and snowstorms.
Now in its tenth year of operation, we look at ten events brought to light by this groundbreaking mission. Learn about some of the most significant events that GPM has observed over the past decade, including severe floods in Australia, intense hurricanes in the Atlantic and Pacific, and prolonged periods of heavy rainfall in various regions around the world. By exploring these examples, you'll gain a deeper understanding of how GPM's data are being used to improve our knowledge of Earth's precipitation patterns and help us prepare for the challenges of climate change.
