GPM Orbit Raise Burn #2 Complete

The GPM Mission Operations have successfully executed Orbit Raise Burn #2 for the GPM Core Observatory (GPM-CO). The maneuver performance was NOMINAL. Burn Start: 17:22:42 UTC* Burn End: 17:32:32 UTC* Duration: 590 seconds *slightly earlier than the planned time stated yesterday – adjusted to optimize altitude-raise performance and subsequent operational events. This completes the GPM-CO altitude-raising process; subsequent work will focus on returning the data products to regular production with as little difference from pre-boost behavior as possible. Note that DPR data will be held pending

GPM Orbit Raise Burn #1 Complete

The GPM Mission Operations have successfully executed Orbit Raise Burn #1 for the GPM Core Observatory. The maneuver performance was NOMINAL. Burn #1 Start: 14:19:53 UTC 7 November Burn #1 End: 14:29:43 UTC 7 November Duration: 590 seconds Post-maneuver orbit determination and burn reconstruction have begun. Burn efficiency will be presented at the CAM tomorrow morning and used in the prediction for Orbit Raise Burn #2 (and final), for which the timing is: Planned Burn #2 Start: 17:23:16 UTC 8 November Planned Burn #2 End: 17:33:06 UTC 8 November Planned Duration: 590 seconds Note that DPR

Notification of Upcoming GPM Orbit Boost

The GPM Core Observatory satellite is scheduled to undergo a series of orbit boost maneuvers which will raise its altitude from 400km to 435km. These boosts are tentatively scheduled for Nov. 7 and 8, 2023. As a result of these maneuvers, the observing parameters of data collected by the GPM Microwave Imager ( GMI) and Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar ( DPR) instruments will change, including the footprint sizes and Earth incidence angle. The algorithms which process these data must be updated to accommodate these changes, including the Level 2 GPROF, DPR, and CORRA algorithms; the Level 3

IMERG V07 Final Processing has Begun

Retrospective processing of IMERG V07 Final Run has commenced as of July 2023 using the new IMERG V07 algorithm. The TRMM and GPM eras are being processed in parallel, starting at the beginning of each dataset, with a projected end date no later than Nov. 2023. IMERG V06 and V07 are sufficiently different that users are discouraged from mixing data from the two versions. V07 Early and Late Run processing will commence after the Final Run is completed. The projected timeline for IMERG V07 processing is shown in the figure below. IMERG download links are listed on the GPM website Data Directory

Status of IMERG V07 Final Run Reprocessing

PPS has begun to generate the IMERG V07 Final data product. In the coming months, PPS will create IMERG V07 Final files for the entire period of record, which starts in June 2000. PPS will finish reprocessing Version 07 Final IMERG before starting to generate the V07 near real-time (NRT) IMERG data products. The NRT IMERG data products are IMERG Early (with 4-hour latency) and IMERG Late (with 14-hour latency). Early and Late IMERG reprocessing is currently scheduled to begin in November 2023, and it will take PPS several months to create the full period of record (June 2000 to present)

Status of IMERG V07 Reprocessing and GPM Near Real-Time

The IMERG algorithm team has finalized the IMERG V07 algorithm for the final product. This is the one that is generated with a 3 month latency. PPS has started the reprocessing and processing of V07 IMERG final. The V07 reprocessed final files will soon be available from PPS. The algorithm team has requested that the entire TRMM/GPM era IMERG-final product be reprocessed before the near real-time (NRT) early (4 hour latency) or late (14 hour latency) products are produced at V07. This will allow them to use the final IMERG product to update ancillary files used as part of the early and late

GPM Level 2 and Level 3 Data Products will be Designated V07B Starting Sat. July, 1, 2023

Commencing with the data date of Saturday July 1, 2023, all GPM Level 2 and Level 3 data products will be updated to the designation V07B. PPS will be making these V07B data products available to the public starting on Thursday July 06, 2023. This version update is necessary since there has been a change to the GPM autosnow input data for these GPM Level 2 and Level 3 algorithms. PPS GPM Level 2 and Level 3 data processing will be on hold between Sat July 01 -Tue July 04, 2023 in order to close out the GPM Level 2 and Level 3 V07A products through June 30, 2023. On Wed July 05, 2023 we will

IMERG V07 Delay

The IMERG V07 algorithm release has been delayed as the team works to address some artifacts discovered during the development process. Currently, a near-complete version of the algorithm is in the integration and testing phase at NASA's Precipitation Processing System (PPS). The IMERG team has also decided to run the Final V07 version first to obtain information that will be useful in the near real-time IMERG V07 Early and Late products. As a result, the Early and Late products will continue to process as IMERG V06 for several months after the Final shifts to Version 07. Please continue to

GPM products will interrupt during the satellite safe-mode patch installation on Tuesday April 18, 2023

On Tuesday April 18, 2023 at 12:00 UTC the GPM Flight Operations Team will be uploading a firmware update to the GPM satellite. During this time the instruments will be shut down and the spacecraft will be put into sun acquisition mode. No science data will be available until the spacecraft is commanded back into Mission Science Mode. Instruments are expected to be back to nominal operations by 20:00 UTC. It will take additional time for PPS production to ingest and verify the data before processing restart. We will provide an update when activities are complete and nominal production has
