GPM Satellite Data Outages During 23-24 March 2022

A mis-set error counter on the Core Observatory provoked a safe hold at 13:31:29 UTC on 23 March 2022, shutting down DPR and GMI observations. DPR and GMI were restored at 10:54 and 14:54 UTC, respectively on 24 March 2022. No data were recoverable from the outage period, although IMERG Early and Late continued to be produced (without GMI input, of course). The same will be true for the Final Run when it is produced. An outage at FNMOC prevented transmission of DMSP (SSMIS) from 15:51 UTC 23 March 23 to 00:47 UTC 24 March 2022. Gaps in the data are: F16: 14:34:07-19:29:39, F17: 14:56:24-19:46

6 December 2021 GPM NRT radar product version update to V07

Effective approximately 01:30 UTC on 6 December V06 radar and combined data products will cease to be produced by the NRT. In the period 01:30 - 03:00 NASA and JAXA will be updating the radar products to the officially approved V07A data version. During this period no L2 Ka, Ku or DPR will be available. When radar data resumes it will be V07A which has major changes in swath organization as well as science content. The combined product is an interim product which will use V07A radar inputs but V05 GMI 1C inputs. This product is NOT the final or approved V07A combined product but does have the

PPS Will Commence GPM Version 7 DPR Processing on December 6, 2021

As of November 30, 2021, PPS has ceased production of GPM V06 DPR and Combined products. Starting on December 6, 2021 we will start GPM V07 processing beginning with Data date Dec 1, 2021 for GPM DPR ONLY. On December 10, 2021 we will start GPM (reprocessing) RP for V07 back to the beginning of the mission for GPM DPR ONLY. GPM GMI and Partner data will continue at the current version (V05) until February 2022 (approximately). Please note that the Combined GPM products will not be available again until February 2022. The above does not apply to GPM NRT (near real-time) processing. An

Transitioning to NRT Ku/Ka/DPR V07

At approximately 10:30 UTC 5 December 2021 until about 00:30 UTC 6 December. The GPM near realtime will be transitioning its software to product V07 radar products. The V07 radar products have a different format from V06. Users should point their browsers to https://pps.eosdis.nasa.gov and get the V07 file specification document that provides the new format for V07 radar products. The radiometer products will remain at their current V05 until at least February 2022. There are some format changes in the L1C V07 radiometer products and substantial changes in the GPROF data presentation. Again

PPS Maintenance Jul 1 - Jul 8, 2021, Early July GPM Data Production will be on Hold

PPS will be performing crucial server updates, scheduled preventive maintenance and data product verification starting on Thursday July 01, 2021 through Thursday July 08, 2021 (Thu Jul 1, 8:00 AM EST - Thu Jul 08, 2021 Time TBD). During this period PPS will finish producing GPM data products for June 2021. GPM July 2021 production data will then be placed on hold while PPS upgrades our servers and then analyzes the GPM July data after the OS update . Please see the schedule below for the specific details and times. July 1 - 5, 2021: PPS will be closing out monthly processing for June 2021 GPM

PPS's 'ftp://gpmweb2' Service has Been Replaced with 'https://gpmweb2https'

PPS's new 'https://gpmweb2https' service is now accessible to the public and we have modified our website: https://pps.gsfc.nasa.gov/ All the previous links and source material referencing ftp://gpmweb2 have been or will be completely updated to refer to the new 'https://gpmweb2https' address. This effort will allow you to view documents and other content within your browser as you did before. As an example see: https://gpmweb2https.pps.eosdis.nasa.gov/pub/GPMfilespec/filespecMeta.G… PPS will also make 'gpmweb2ftps.pps.eosdis.nasa.gov' ftps service available as an alternative. You can

PPS's 'ftp://gpmweb2' Service will be Replaced Soon

Due to recent changes to popular web browsers (i.e. Firefox, Edge, Chrome, etc.) PPS's gpmweb2 FTP content which was viewable with a web browser may no longer display. This content will be moving to an alternate 'HTTPS' service. Consequently, all the old links and source material referencing ftp://gpmweb2 will be updated to refer to 'https://gpmweb2https' once this service is activated for the PPS public website: https://pps.gsfc.nasa.gov These changes and the new 'HTTPS' service are expected to go into effect around or before the next PPS preventive maintenance downtime on Tuesday May 04

Final Reminder: FTP Access on PPS's 'arthurhou' Production Server, will End On January 19, 2021

This is the final reminder that starting on Tuesday January 19, 2021, PPS will transition from FTP access to FTPS access (main method) and HTTPS access (secondary method) for data transfer from the PPS's 'arthurhou' GPM Production data server Elimination of the less secure 'ftp' protocol is mandated by NASA/ GSFC security policy. This change will require PPS data users to retrieve data using alternative methods and tools. Please note that 'arthurhou' already supports FTPS and HTTPS data transfers. Details of how to access PPS FTPS and HTTPS services can be found at the links below: Click here
